We Are God’s Children
===
Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever it is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is.
1 John 3:2 (NET)

This is a message for Christians:
I know in the “new age” belief that all people are considered God’s children -- and, in a sense, we are all a child of the Creator -- but this letter specifically means those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior.
That’s an important caveat.
What I love about this verse is the hope it gives me.
Hope for a glorious future with the King of the Universe.
Beyond even my wildest imagination, we don’t even know how amazing it will be because it hasn’t been revealed to us yet.
Now, why would God hold it back?
Frankly, I’m not sure.
But my suspicion is that if He did share what kind of hope awaits His children after death, well we would never get anything done here on the earth.
We would probably be tempted to “shorten the waiting period.”
If we did that, who would share the hope of Christ with the lost in the world?
I spent last week at a men’s conference. Something that stood out to me was when we were going through the Gospel of John 15:5.
Specifically, talking about how the branches (us) will bear much fruit if we abide in the vine (Christ).
At the risk of taking the metaphor too far, it’s not the vine that bears the fruit -- it’s the branches.
We are God’s workmanship, created for good works (like bearing much fruit).
We’re still here because we have an eternally important job to do.
Let’s get to work.
