You Reap What You Sow
A dire spiritual warning
===
Do not be deceived. God will not be made a fool. For a person will reap what he sows, because the person who sows to his own flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.
Galatians 6:7-8 (NET)
===
This is one of those truths of the universe that everyone can see.
I’ve studied quite a few business & success leaders and they often talk about this idea of reaping what you sow. Except they often put it in terms of putting positive energy out in the universe and getting it back.
Sort of a cosmic karma.
Why would I believe in a vague “universe power” when I can have a relationship with the Creator?
Let’s set that aside.
The meat of these verses is about the importance of investing in the Spirit instead of my own flesh. I say investing because we don’t do much farming anymore, but it’s pretty much the same thing.
The thoughts I think and the actions I take are all little investments. Paul doesn’t mince words here. He tells us straight up that investing in flesh leads to a harvest of corruption. That is, thorns & thistles instead of fruit.
But investing in the Spirit yields a harvest of fruit.
(I promise I wasn’t going to mention the fruit of the Spirit when I started, yet here we are.)
I guess fruit isn’t quite the right term, since Paul explicitly tells us that we will reap a harvest of eternal life. So, if I backtrack a bit and apply that to reaping corruption from the flesh, well that would be not eternal life.
In other words, eternal destruction.
Take this warning seriously.
Sow seeds of the Spirit, avoid seeds of the flesh.
