Worship & Obey
A small challenge for you today
===
The people said to Joshua, “We will worship the Lord our God and obey him.”
Joshua 24:24 (NET)
===
Sometimes a simple, straightforward verse like this can be a great one.
It cuts through the noise of life and gives me a simple goal:
Worship and obey God.
For context, Joshua had just walked Israel through their commitment to God and the temptations they would face in failing to worship and obey God.
They were emphatic that they would worship the Lord, God and not any other gods.
(We know how well that turned out.)
Nevertheless, this is the answer they gave to Joshua.
I wonder how many people have said out loud: I will worship and obey God.
Of course, as believers we’ve made that verbal confession at least once.
But what about renewing my commitment? What about reflecting on the year and God’s goodness and re-commiting myself to worship and obey Him?
It’s probably been a while since you’ve done that.
Me too.
I’d like to challenge you today.
Take some time to reflect on what God has done for you this year. Then spend some time thinking about the reality of a holy God’s expectation for obedience (hint: it’s perfection).
Thank Jesus for His substitution work so we can have this perfection applied to us.
Then, make a verbal commitment to worship and obey God.
(Yes, I think saying it out loud is important.)
Do you accept the challenge?
