Whole Mind (Part 5)
Final meditation on Philippians 4:8
===
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.
Philippians 4:8 (NET)
===
Last one:
Think about whatever is commendable, excellent, or praiseworthy.
These are all synonyms, so it makes sense to group them together.
Of course, God is the ultimate one worthy of praise. So, I suppose the answer here is to think about God, which I’ve been harping on throughout this little mini-series.
I often like to think about the different titles of God.
For example, in Isaiah 9 we see the prophecy of the Messiah giving four different titles:
1. Wonderful Counselor.
God is the good advisor, guiding us with His wisdom as we struggle to navigate life. Sometimes He’s direct, but most of the time He’s gentle in His guidance and we must listen carefully to hear His voice.
2. Mighty God.
A statement of strength. Placing God as the ruler of the universe and reminding us of His ability to do what He wills.
3. Everlasting Father.
The title of fatherhood carries a lot of meaning with it. We often ascribe aspects of our earthly fathers to God, which can be good or bad. This may skew our view of God, so something to be aware of.
4. Prince of Peace.
Another power title, except the power to end the spiritual war and set up rule in His forever Kingdom. Since Jesus already came once, we’re in the midst of the return of His Kingdom, but it’s not fully here yet. There’s still work to be done.
Meditation is good, but not enough.
Ultimately, we must apply our thoughts to our actions, a lesson for another day.
