Whole Mind (Part 3)
Bring order to the chaos
===
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.
Philippians 4:8 (NET)
===
Think about whatever is just.
In this case, thinking about the things that are right, proper, or fair.
At first I was considering using this to talk about the justice done on the Cross. But that’s actually not an example of something fair; it’s grace. (I, for one, am glad it’s not fair.)
So, what’s an alternative to think about?
The world as things ought to be.
As long as sin is in the world, things will remain broken. But that doesn’t mean we can’t work to bring as much of the restoration of God’s Kingdom here on earth. We can. More than that, we should.
I think about that imagery of the city on a hill, shining the light of the Gospel to people.
Some day God will bring His light as he makes everything new … but not today.
For today, we can think about the things that are just. The things that restore order from the chaos. Making things better for our neighbors, our friends, our society. Which I think is pretty cool, that as we bring order into the chaos, we are echoing the order God created.
Gardens are such an example.
There are boundaries and trimming of plants and purpose to how they are organized.
We can do something similar to many parts of our lives.
Not to over-spiritualize something like cleaning a desk, but still, there’s something good about doing things that create order in the midst of chaos.
Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough for today. See you tomorrow.
