Whole Mind (Part 1)
How you can handle the truth
===
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.
Philippians 4:8 (NET)
===
I’ve read through Philippians over 70 times
(I once spent two months reading the whole letter every day for my Quiet Time, an amazing & eye-opening reading plan if you ever get the chance to do it. I’ll probably do something similar soon except with the book of 1 Thessalonians, but I digress.)
Something is abundantly clear when I read this letter:
Paul loved the Philippian church.
Because of this, it’s no surprise that he went big for his final exhortation to them. It’s probably a little bit overkill to dig into all eight of those topics that Paul wants the Philippians to dwell on. After all, the implication is clear: meditate on God’s goodness.
…oh, nevermind, let’s go ahead and dig into each of them.
This will obviously be a multi-part mini-series.
Let’s begin:
Think about whatever is true.
This is the solid foundation to build our thoughts on. And make no mistake, our thoughts drive our hearts, and our hearts drive our actions. In other words:
What you think about is what you’ll care about. And what you care about, you’ll chase.
The Enemy is sneaky and he’s good about feeding us almost-truths that lead us off track. It’s almost imperative to fill our minds with truth to combat his lies.
Easy place to begin?
Fill your mind with God’s Word.
Listen. Read. Study. Memorize. Meditate. Apply.
Do those six with the verses that stand out to you and you’ll build a solid foundation on Truth.
All right, much more to be said, I’ll continue tomorrow.
