Watch out for this sneaky liar (it’s not the devil)
The Armor of God (Part 2)
===
Stand firm therefore, by fastening the belt of truth around your waist, by putting on the breastplate of righteousness,
Ephesians 6:14 (NET)
===
Again, there’s that word stand.
Anyway, let’s get into these two pieces of armor:
First, the belt of truth.
Remember that back in John 14, Jesus declared Himself to be “the Truth.” So, right away we see another connection that this armor is not our own works, but is God’s.
Jesus, as the center of our lives, holds everything together.
Much like a belt holds the outfit together.
Something else:
It’s easy to think about speaking truth as an external action we take. That is, be a truthful person (don’t lie).
But there are secret, hidden lies we “speak” all the time -- to ourselves!
I had one mentor say, “Nobody lies to you like you lie to you.”
The things we preach to ourselves impact our thinking, identity, actions … just about everything.
It’s desperately important that we fill our mind with truth and then speak that truth to ourselves.
Otherwise the Enemy is going to score a win.
All right.
Switching gears:
The breastplate of righteousness is obviously not our own righteousness. Ours are filthy rags.
This is Christ’s righteousness placed around us.
It’s perfect.
So, when the Enemy attacks you for sinning & failing, remember whose righteousness you’re wearing and remind yourself of that truth.
