Walking in Darkness
When the way forward seems shadowed in utter darkness
===
Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.
Isaiah 50:10 (ESV)
===
Some time ago I was at a men’s conference and sharing some personal struggles with a friend.
My struggle was knowing where to go & what to do within God’s will. I had a lot of ideas, but I couldn’t sense a particular direction to take. I was stuck.
He gave me this verse.
What stands out to me is this picture of walking in darkness, with no light, and yet trusting in God.
It’s hard to walk forward when you can’t see your steps.
Psalm 119:105 talks about God’s Word being a lamp to light our feet and a light for our path.
But what about the times when it doesn’t feel like there’s any light?
Rely on God.
The danger for me is to stop moving. To allow my fear of choosing the wrong path to paralyze me. I’d rather stand around and “be safe” than to risk walking in the wrong direction.
But the encouragement from this verse is for me to walk anyway.
To take my steps in the darkness and trust God to help me along the way.
It’s a challenge, but I know that as long as I’m walking with God, then I’ve got the best chance possible to be in the very center of His will. And that’s exactly where I want to be.
So, if you’re struggling with walking in the dark, or even standing in the dark and looking for the path, my encouragement to you today is to spend time with Jesus and start walking anyway.
God’s got you.
