What kind of confidence can we have in Christ’s resurrection?
That is the key question of our faith, for without His resurrection everything we hope & believe in falls apart.
How about a guy who apprenticed under Jesus for years, saw His death, walked away sad, and quickly jumped back in to lead the church?
I’d say that’s a pretty good testimony of the incredible miracle of the resurrection.
Peter knew how important it was. He also knew how incredible it sounded to the average person.
For his part, he supports the miracle with his own testimony.
The life of Peter supports it too.
Tradition says he died in a horrible crucifixion in Rome.
But even before all of that ministry, he went from jumping back into fishing (his old job) to leading the church in about a month.
What could have happened?
Not a lie that they just cooked up, because why suffer that badly for something he knew was a lie?
Foolish idea.
Peter had to believe that Jesus really did rise from the dead and the Holy Spirit really did transform lives (especially the 3,000 at Pentecost).
If it makes sense that he really did believe that, and we know he was an eyewitness to Jesus’ death, then the simplest explanation is that Jesus did, in fact, defeat death and rise from the grave.
Hallelujah, Christ arose!
