This might be my favorite Psalm
From Everlasting to Everlasting
===
Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Psalm 90:1-2 (ESV)
===
These verses are extra special to me.
Growing up, I was blessed to hear some of the preaching of my great-grandfather Bill Ketchum.
He was a hard-worker, grew up in the Great Depression, loved Jesus, and worked hard as a minister for Christ.
His prayers were always loud & powerful and this phrase — from everlasting to everlasting you are God — was his signature.
Even today, as I type this, I hear his booming voice declaring this truth in my head.
What a blessing.
…
I also have a fond memory of listening to the late Navigator Jim White quoting this Psalm from memory.
Yes, he memorized this entire Psalm (in fact, he memorized many Psalms but this was the one that stands out to me because he quoted the whole thing from memory while preaching at a men’s conference I was attending about ten years ago).
This is the only Psalm we have from Moses.
It’s obviously written near the end of his life. Meant as an encouragement to give wisdom to Israel so they would consider carefully the steps they take on their journey through life.
Obviously, we should do the same.
I haven’t gotten around to memorizing this one yet, but it’s on my to-do list.
More than just these two verses, I encourage you to take some time today — or this week — and meditate on this entire Psalm.
It’s so good.
I promise you’ll be blessed and the time will be well worth it.
