The Lord Was with Hezekiah
More than enough
===
He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; in this regard there was none like him among the kings of Judah either before or after. He was loyal to the Lord and did not abandon him. He obeyed the commandments that the Lord had given to Moses. The Lord was with him; he succeeded in all his endeavors.
2 Kings 18:5-7a (NET)

This is an amazing passage.
Sure, we often think about King David being “a man after God’s own heart.” And King Solomon being the wisest man who ever lived.
But we don’t talk much about King Hezekiah…
The King who trusted in God.
(I suppose the cutoff may be after the kingdom split, in which case David & Solomon aren’t in this list. But, still…)
His obedience to God’s Law and his loyalty to God demonstrated his trust in God.
I sometimes get caught up in all the little details of doing things for God. Good things. But trusting in God is more than just these detailed actions, it’s a heart issue.
Why am I doing these things for God?
To honor Him? To try and gain some more approval? Or because it makes sense as a person who has been transformed by Christ?
I hope it’s the last one, but not always.
Now, here’s one last detail of this verse that’s interesting:
The Lord was with him and he succeeded in all his endeavors.
Of course, that’s not a promise for all of us who strive to honor God with our lives. Some things may succeed and some may fail.
This is just a report on Hezekiah.
But, what a report!
I hope to get to the point where “the Lord is with me” is enough.
It should, obviously, be more than enough.
