The Lord Provides
Jehovah Jirah

And Abraham called the name of that place “The Lord provides.” It is said to this day, “In the mountain of the Lord provision will be made.”
Genesis 22:14 (NET)

Here’s something tragic about humanity.
(Yes, I’m including myself here.)
We tend not to be thankful when life is going well.
Jesus taught us in the Model Prayer to ask the Lord for our daily bread.
He showed us that having an attitude of expectation of God’s provision should be a part of what we do every day. And yet…
I often ignore this teaching … or, rather, forget about it.
Abraham was in the midst of a difficult trial, and trusted God completely to help him out of it.
God — for some unknown reason — had called Abraham to sacrifice his only son.
Yet Abraham’s faith in God and His promise was so great that he just assumed God would raise Isaac from the dead. We know this because of Hebrews 11.
I have to say, “Wow!”
What a tremendous example of faith.
It’s the aftermath of this trial — when God provides a ram as substitution — that Abraham gives God a new title:
Jehovah Jirah — The Lord Provides.
I don’t know what trials you’re facing today. Or what you will face tomorrow.
But I know that God is the Providing Lord and He delights to hear us talk to Him every day. Even going so far to instruct us to ask for provision each day.
Which is a daily habit I need to get into.
…
Also, this verse is a precursor to Jesus. He was the provision for our sins, sacrificed on that mountain.
In many, Many, MANY ways, The Lord Provides.
