Often, I overcomplicate the Christian walk.
We can see a simple ministry overview in just these two verses:
Preach the Gospel to the lost and strengthen the believers.
Not actually all that complicated.
The difficulty is in all that we fight against: our flesh wants to hold us back and the Enemy fights against us.
There are obviously various degrees of warfare and oppression going, but essentially these are the afflictions we must fight against.
But why should we fight so hard?
Well, if you’re looking for a “carrot” to go after, as believers we are promised great rewards in the eternal kingdom for being a servant who does well.
Admittedly, that feels a little selfish.
The deeper calling that spurs us on is love.
The love of Christ compels us to serve Him with honor.
That love spills over into our fellow believers, brothers and sisters that God has adopted.
This kind of love is probably the greatest motivator of all. Better than seeking a reward (though that’s nice too).
Plus, love is a fruit of the Spirit.
Meaning God Himself is helping to strengthen us in the battles and spur us forward to our eternal reward.
