The ancient mind couldn’t comprehend this awesome reality
Live in the Lord’s House
===
I have asked the Lord for one thing—this is what I desire! I want to live in the Lord’s house all the days of my life, so I can gaze at the splendor of the Lord and contemplate in his temple.
Psalm 27:4 (NET)
===
This is one of those coffee cup verses.
You know, the ones people like to print out onto their morning mugs to help start their day on the right foot.
Anyway, I’ve always thought about this in relation to heaven. But today I had a new thought:
As a new covenant (post Resurrection) child of God, the Lord now lives in me!
…And He lives in you too.
Think about that and go re-read the verse.
…
…
…
All right, I know our bodies here on the Earth cannot compare with the heavenly temple that wasn’t made with hands.
But still, we get to live in the Lord’s house all the rest of our days -- just like the Psalmist desired.
He probably had no idea God’s great plan for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit on His covenantal people.
To him, the house of the Lord was a singular building. Splendid as it was, it cannot compare with having God here, with us, right now.
Immanuel: God with us.
Amazing!
Although, if I’m being pedantic, my own temple is in need of some improvements and repairs! Ha ha.
I guess the verse is really about the heavenly temple after all. But it’s still a cool angle to think about it in terms of the Earthly temple where God lives now.
