Speak Gracefully
Good words
===
You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it would give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:29 (NET)
===
What’s the most powerful force in the universe?
I mean, I know God is, but He used something to create everything.
Words.
God spoke the universe into existence. Jesus is called the Word that became flesh. When Christ & Satan fought after Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness, they used the Scriptures as their weapons.
We are all created in the image of God.
And if God places such lofty power on words, we ought to be aware of the power of words too.
Perhaps that’s why this warning from Paul is so important.
Words can build up those in need.
Sometimes an encouraging word is enough to turn the tide against darkness. To lift up a weary soul and bring them toward the light of Christ.
A joke well placed can bring laughter to a room, literally filling it up with joy.
Words can bring grace to those who hear.
An apology is a powerful thing. Even though it can’t physically undo the damage done, it can begin repairing relationships, and that’s emotional power.
Likewise, forgiveness is a powerful force. Removing the shame of mistakes from someone and freeing them up to move back onto the path of life.
Maybe it’s because I’m a writer, but I love how much words can bring life & light to people.
And I take seriously this challenge from Paul, that I would be a man who speaks gracefully.
