Some days I just sit back in awe of this
I Will Be Their God
===
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies asserts, ‘I am about to save my people from the lands of the east and the west. And I will bring them to settle within Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and righteousness.’
Zechariah 8:7-8 (NET)
===
This is covenantal relationship.
We talked yesterday about some of the differences between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant (relating to Paul being poured out as a drink offering for the Philippians).
These two verses are a powerful picture of God’s defense of His people.
Remember, it isn’t like the people of Israel had been supremely faithful to the Lord.
Nope.
They’d gone around and worshiped all kinds of idols and other so-called gods.
Yet the Lord, in His goodness and amazing grace, remained patient with them.
Even while we were enemies of God, He loved us.
Make no mistake, my sin nailed Christ to the cross just as much as any other person’s sins did.
I’m fully convinced that if the whole rest of the world were perfect and I alone was the lost sinner in need of a savior, Jesus would still have endured the cross for me.
Just as He did for you.
We don’t deserve it.
We’re fickle too.
Choosing to disobey His commands, ignore His leading, choose our own flesh instead of the good works He has for us.
And yet…
I am His child and He is my God.
Some days I just need to sit back in awe of this reality.
It’s amazing grace.
