Seek & You Will Find
What to do when you know you’re not good enough
===
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 (NET)
===
A couple things:
1) Obviously these are some metaphors Jesus shared as part of the Sermon on the Mount. Not every literal door we knock on will be opened.
2) God is not a genie.
Okay, that out of the way, let’s dig into this real quick.
What an incredible passage showing us the generosity of God.
I know I have trouble asking for help.
I’m a guy who wants to be able to get things done myself. I take pride in my intelligence and my ability to think things through and find effective ways to get things done.
So, I hate asking for help.
It shows weakness.
Yet it’s in our weaknesses that God’s strength shines.
Here we have a generous Father (and Son) who wants to give us good things. Things that will bring us abundant life, and ultimately a life spent in eternity with Him.
But I need to humble myself and ask for help.
For me, this can cause a small identity crisis.
I must acknowledge that I’m not good enough … smart enough … strong enough.
I need God’s help.
Instead of feeling ashamed, I should celebrate that I have the wonderful privilege of serving a loving God who wants to take care of me.
But first, I must ask, seek, & knock.
