Seek God’s Kingdom (Part 4)
Why worrying about the 4 walls of your financial house is dumb
===
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
===
Well, when I started, I didn’t mean to turn this little verse into a four-day series, yet here we are.
So, let’s crank along.
What I haven’t touched on is the last phrase of the verse: all these things will be added to you.
Now, context matters.
Jesus had just told the crowd not to be anxious about getting the things they need in life. That God knows we need food, clothing, shelter, and He is a good Father who will graciously provide for us.
So, those are “all these things” that will be added.
I think Dave Ramsey calls these the four walls of your financial house: food, utilities, shelter, transportation. (For some reason Jesus didn’t talk much to those people about their cars … 🤷 )
Anyway.
The point that Jesus is making here in His sermon is…
God will take care of you, so focus on the things that matter eternally:
i.e., God, people, & righteousness
I tend to overcomplicate the Christian walk. Getting stuck in the details of things while I try, in my perfectionism, to find the only optimum way to accomplish God’s mission.
I’d be better off walking in simplicity.
Focusing on spending daily time with God, investing in people, and allowing the Spirit to grow a harvest of His fruit inside of me.
Everything else should simply fall into place.
A simple life that honors God.
Isn’t that the dream?
