Romans Road to Salvation: Stop #5 (How to Be Saved)
The surprisingly simple 2-step formula for eternal life
===
Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 (ESV)
===
It’s not a magic spell.
But the “formula” — if you want to call it that — for placing your faith in Christ as savior is simple:
1. Confess, out loud, that Jesus is Lord (i.e., The Boss) of your life.
2. Believe that God raised Him from the dead.
These instructions are so simple that even a young child — and I should know because I was a young child who followed these instructions — can understand it.
I generally find it helpful to walk with someone else when doing this, but, God alone is witness enough. He knows the desires of our hearts and He alone is the ultimate Judge of our lives. So, if you want to be someone who confesses out loud without any people around, know that God still hears and sees you.
Go ahead.
Confess.
Most of you reading this will have already confessed & believed.
In that case, this email serves as a pleasant reminder of the time you did that. Certainly it does for me. Even though I was very young I still remember it: praying with my children’s pastor to accept Jesus into my life and the joy that followed.
It sticks with me.
Keeps me going in the hard times.
I hope it will stick for you too.
Something else:
A lot of people don’t know what to do after they’ve accepted Christ. Walking around thinking, “I’m a Christian, now what?”
The next mini-series of emails will answer that.
It starts here tomorrow.
