Romans Road to Salvation: Stop #3 (Sin’s Wage)
The best free gift ever
===
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23 (ESV)
===
Whenever I go to a party and I meet a stranger, they almost always ask these two questions: who are you and what do you do?
To be fair, I ask the same of them.
Regardless, I want to talk a bit about working. Because you probably work for wages. Presumably, you spend time and energy doing tasks and in exchange you get to take home some money.
Here we see a similar exchange, where our work of sin earns us death.
And not just a physical death, but eternal separation from God in hell.
Fire, pain, darkness, weeping, gnashing of teeth … death with a capital “D”
Without the kindness of God, our situation is utterly hopeless.
But, like we saw yesterday, God demonstrates love by sending Christ to die in exchange for us. And He offers us eternal life — life with a capital “L” — as a free gift. All we have to do is accept.
The conditions of accepting?
Making Jesus Christ lord of your life. In other words, “The Boss.” The one in charge. If your life was a car, you give up the steering wheel and let Him drive instead.
As far as free gifts go, this one is “expensive.” But the question is, what’s your eternity worth to you?
Giving up control of my life today for eternity in glory a hundred … a thousand … ten thousand years from now is an easy exchange.
And once you make that exchange, stop #4 shares what life looks like going forward.
See you here tomorrow.
