Travel the Roads

How do you feel about road trips?

I’ve traveled a lot of highway miles over the years.

For every trip our family ever took, we always start the same way:

Praying for the Lord’s protection over us and His blessing on us.

Yeah, it’s mostly about trusting in God to help us avoid potential vehicle accidents. We’ve had some close calls before and I’m thankful for God’s help in those times.

I do wonder how things will change with the full self drive function on the new Teslas, but that’s a thought for another day.

What I can say right now is that God has blessed us on those trips.

While this is thematically a bit of a road trip verse, it’s not actually about that.

It’s about the Psalmist’s love for God and longing to be closer to Him.

Remember, the Psalmist was living in the Old Testament (old covenant) times. He didn’t have the direct access to God that Jesus opened up. Nor did he have the Holy Spirit living inside him.

For all intents and purposes, God was distant.

How lucky are we that God is right here, all the time?

He doesn’t sleep; He’s always ready to sit & talk.

He’s always leading, guiding, protecting us even if it’s so subtle that we allow ourselves not to feel Him.

Life is a journey, but we never have to walk alone.
