Purpose of John’s Gospel
How to know exactly why the Bible was written
===
Now Jesus performed many other miraculous signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John 20:30-31 (NET)

Do you ever wonder about the paraboles, stories, lessons, and miracles that the disciples picked out to put into their Gospels?
Especially the ones that are unique to one Gospel or another.
The Holy Spirit did a special work leading those original Gospel writers.
I like John, in part because he was so blunt about Jesus’ divinity (His Godhood).
John did that partly because he was fighting against an early form of gnosticism, where people believed there was some extra secret knowledge you had to have in order to be saved. They also celebrated the spiritual and shunned the physical.
That’s why John begins by talking about Jesus being the Word of God … and then drops a stunning hammer by telling them it became flesh.
They had no problem with Jesus as God, but a huge problem with Him as a man.
Anyway, John tells us — explicitly — why he wrote this Gospel.
So that you may believe that Jesus is your true hope for salvation.
What a blessing to have these words penned down for us.
It’s so rich. No matter how many times I read it, there is still more available. More to learn from. More to grow into. More to make me a better man of God.
Today is a good day to soak in the Word.
