Probably the 2nd most significant moment in the early Church
Saved by Jesus’s Grace
===
On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they are.”
Acts 15:11 (NET)
===
This is one of the significant moments in the early church.
Of course, the most significant being Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Church.
(I’m starting the timer after the ascension of Jesus, FYI).
Why is this so significant?
It removes the yoke of the law from salvation -- particularly for Gentiles.
i.e., you and me (probably).
Jesus’s work on earth fulfilled the law and God’s New Covenant with us set up a whole new standard of what it means to be a child of the Lord.
Now a path to salvation was cleared for the whole world.
I, for one, am glad that I can eat bacon and still be a Christian.
Which is a light-hearted approach to a serious reality. But the truth is it’s almost overwhelming how good God is to share His grace with us.
He could have left us to rot.
“You made your bed, now lie in it.”
We could never have cleaned up our mess, no matter how hard we tried.
And yet God so loved the world -- that is, you and me -- He sent Christ to live & die for us.
I’ve talked much this past week about this, it being Easter week and all.
But I never get over the reality.
God’s grace is, well, amazing.
