Living & Active Word
Use this whenever your wondering what God has to say
===
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)
===
This is a great verse.
It highlights one of the biggest differences between the Bible and every other book in the entire world:
The Bible is the Living Word of God.
As such, it has authority to speak into our lives every day.
More than that, the Holy Spirit uses His Word to bring transformation in us.
It’s one of the reasons I’m such a fan of memorizing the Word, because then it’s written on my heart & mind and is always available for the Spirit to use.
If you’re ever wondering what God has to say about a thing, just read His Word.
Of course not every little thing about the modern world is found in the pages of the Good Book. But the principles that should guide our lives, that can easily be found inside.
I sometimes obsess a bit over the details and ignore the simpler, bigger picture.
That’s when spending time in the Word helps me, by forcing me to slow down and look at the principles rather than the tactics.
Things like: spending time with God, talking to God, listening to Him, loving one another.
All obvious aims for living a God-honoring life.
One last thing:
This verse has a lot of poetic language. So don’t read too much into the metaphors here of sword and joints and bones, etc.
Again, look at the bigger picture.
