Knowing God’s Thoughts
I may not be a mind reader, but I can know God’s mind … sort of

For who among men knows the things of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So too, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

As a struggling perfectionist, something I’m always looking for is more information.
My heart & mind tell me that if I could just gather all the data, then I could make the perfect decision. And then everything would work out well and I’d have no more problems to deal with.
Obviously, hogwash.
I have to slap down those thoughts quite a bit.
However, God knows everything. Sometimes He chooses to share enough with me to make wise decisions even though I don’t have all the data.
Just like no one can read my mind — except me — no one can read God’s mind except God.
The big advantage we as believers have over the rest of the world?
God the Spirit living within us.
If I want to try and learn God’s thoughts on a thing, I’ve got quite a few resources.
1. I can dig into His Word, knowing that He’s already written down many things for my instruction.
2. I can seek wise council from His Body, i.e., the Church.
3. I can go directly to the source, praying to God and asking for His Spirit that lives within me to give me guidance and the answers I need.
It’s a good idea to do all three simultaneously.
Most people try to do things in a sequence. Step one, then step two, then step three. But in this case it’s a better idea to do everything all at once and let God work around you.
It’s the best chance I have at hearing God’s plans.
