Keep Away from Lust
A wholesome discussion on fleshly sins
===
Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul
1 Peter 2:11 (NET)

Interesting the connection here between physical and spiritual.
Peter urges the Church to keep away from fleshly desires — that is, physical desires such as secks-ual immorality — and then tells them it’s a battle for their very souls. (By the way, I’m only spelling it that way to try and avoid email filters which are likely to false flag this.)
We don’t talk too much about this battle, yet it’s an important discussion.
I don’t mean that the Church doesn’t bring these sins up, we obviously do since we have all kinds of resources to help people battle lust & secks-ual sin.
A good one is the Freedom Fight.
But what I mean is that we don’t often talk about how physical actions affect our spiritual selves.
I recently heard a great quote from Dr. John Delony:
“There’s no such thing as mental health, spiritual health, physical health, or emotional health; it’s just health.”
When God created us, he weaved all of these pieces together. Knitting us as a complex image of Himself.
Personally, I know that often my depressing mood swings are tied to either the food I’ve recently eaten (for some reason too much dairy makes me tired & depressed) or a lack of sleep.
Humorously, we talk about how being hungry can make us angry and labeled that “hangry.”
Sometimes we just need to grab a Snickers.
Most of the time, we need to focus more on Christ and His Word.
I find that when temptation comes, one of the best things I can do is listen to Psalms.
