I’m guilty of doing this too
What If…?
===
Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”
Exodus 4:1 (NKJV)
===
Admittedly, this is a strange verse to pick out.
But how often has God asked you to do something and you respond with the same kind of answer?
I’m guilty of doing this.
God makes a big ask of Moses: go back to Egypt, confront the most powerful man in the land, ask him to let the Israelite people go.
Obviously not something the Pharoah was going to be happy about.
A ton of obstacles, maybe even jail time or death for Moses if things go badly.
So it’s understandable that he would be hesitant.
But God is gracious and answers his hesitations. He gives him miracles and evidence to support his faith.
Unfortunately, later we see that Moses keeps doubting & questioning God.
(Which I’m also guilty of doing.)
To that, God adds Aaron to the “dream team” and reprimands Moses a bit.
I share all this because it’s a lesson for me to learn when God makes a big ask of me.
I don’t want to be the guy doubting God.
I want to be a man who trusts God, who displays a strong faith in Him. Who follows Him wherever He calls me.
I need reminders like this story of Moses’s stumbling so that I might not stumble too.
Of course, there’s grace for me when I do stumble, but, all in all, it’s better if I just trust God from the beginning.
