Ignore the guru on the mountain top
Near Commandments
===
For the [commandment] is very near you—it is in your mouth and in your mind so that you can do it.
Deuteronomy 30:14 (NET)
===
This verse could use a little context.
Moses is telling them that the commandments are not difficult to understand or located in some remote region where they must trek on a far off journey to find them.
We often see that trekking imagery around people looking for wisdom.
For instance, in Batman Begins Bruce Wayne makes his way up to the top of a mountain to meet with a martial arts master who teaches him advanced fighting techniques.
Part of the struggle was the journey to the top of the mountain itself.
Yet God has given us His word and preserved it throughout history.
The Bible is the most popular book in the world.
It was written in the common language of the people.
In fact, that was the specific dialect of the Greek for the New Testament: koine or common.
Because of the spread of Greek culture and language across the known world by Alexander the Great, many people could have accessed the Bible.
All that to say, God is interested in abundantly sharing His Word with you.
It isn’t hidden, it’s widely available.
But that also puts the ball back in our court.
We have to make a decision:
What will you do with the freely available wisdom that God gives you today?
