Choose the Best Part
===
But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the best part; it will not be taken away from her.”

Priorities are hard.
Honoring your guests, keeping a house clean and preparing food on the table is good.
Maybe even great.
But it pales compared to spending time when Jesus is around.
Not to say that spending all your time in the Bible and in prayer is the right thing. There’s a ton of nuance here.
But for this story, in this moment in time, being with Jesus was the best thing.
Mary chose this and she was rewarded.
But how do you know what to choose and when to choose it?
Like I said before: priorities are hard.
There are certainly seasons of life when setting aside all other distractions and spending intentional focused time with the Lord is the right move. Maybe that’s a week or weekend away.
But most of life has its own, good, distractions.
We should be taking care of our family, our household, our guests, etc.
Which means that often the right path is the tiny, consistent, daily time spent with Jesus.
I’ve tried to contribute to that with these simple little emails.
I hope it’s helped.
