I can’t prove this theory, but . . .
Greater Deeds than Jesus
===
I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous deeds that I am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these, because I am going to the Father.
John 14:12 (NET)
===
If it wasn’t Jesus who said it, would you believe it?
I probably wouldn’t.
Yet Jesus gives us an emphatic “solemn truth,” or, “truly, truly,” or, in the old King James, “verily, verily.”
Jesus made it a clear point that His faithful followers would do more amazing deeds than He did.
Astounding!
But how can this be true?
Even us believers are still weighed down by the reality of sin. We fight it daily, in our flesh and against external temptations.
Surely God wouldn’t grant such miracles to the likes of lowly me?
Ah … but we have God Himself living inside us.
The Holy Spirit indwells His children, leading, guiding, and directing.
Personally, I think Jesus did the miracles He did because He was perfectly attuned to the Holy Spirit and allowed the Spirit to empower Him.
That is, I don’t think He “cheated” and used His “God-powers” to work the miracles. I think He was 100% man but was perfectly in tune with God the Spirit.
Practically, this means that I also believe any one of us could do similar -- or even greater -- miracles if we just remain in tuned with the Holy Spirit.
I can’t prove that theory.
Yet I can trust Jesus when He says that His children will do greater miracles.
Like I said before, that’s astounding.
