God’s Will
A not-so-secret secret
===
The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Deuteronomy 29:29 (ESV)

This is pretty cool.
The fact that God has things that He’s revealed to us. Of course, He doesn’t have to do that. Some people look at God as some divine clock-maker: getting all the gears in place and then letting the clock work on its own, never to mess with it again.
Such a sad outlook on God.
The reality is we have this amazing example of Jesus, the divine who came down to be with us and show us the way back to relationship with God.
More than showing us the way, He became the Way.
His act of righteousness is the only thing that makes it possible for us to be back in relationship with God.
And it’s out of a grateful heart of love that we obey His commands. Something else about these commands, they make life better.
I like to think of them more like a garden: gardens don’t grow wild & free. They are pruned, and maintained. There are boundaries, places where the plants can grow & flourish and places where they must be cut back.
The limits make them beautiful.
So it is with the revealed law of God.
Its “limitations” make our lives more beautiful, not stifling.
Another illustration: the law is like a mirror because it shows us the reality of our lives. Unfortunately, we cannot keep all the law on our own. It’s impossible. But Christ kept the law in our place, and He offers us the gift of a perfect sacrifice to cover our sins.
A beautiful revealed plan by God.
