God’s Guidance
There’s just something about starting the day this way
===
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.
Psalm 143:8 (ESV)

There’s something wonderful about mornings.
About six months ago I read a book on Circadian rhythms and how they can help drive our health. There was an interesting section in there about the rhythms of nature and how mornings are different because of the atmosphere and the sun, etc.
It got me thinking about the calm refreshment of mornings.
My best days almost always start with time spent alone with God.
Usually I have to have some coffee to wake up my brain.
Regardless, I’m always better off when I give God my “first-fruits” of time.
The Bible has a lot to say about giving God the first-fruits of our harvest, i.e., tithing.
But as a personal experiment I’ve explored giving God the first 10 percent of my days as well (about 90 minutes of waking hours).
Okay, I haven’t been very diligent or consistent about that, but it’s a slow process. And I almost always have my best days whenever I start them this way.
(Meaning, I should definitely do this more consistently … note to self).
The mornings are a great time to remind myself of God’s faithful love.
Out of that reminder can come the guidance I seek for the day.
Jesus modeled praying for our daily bread. As a category of prayer, guidance for the day ahead fits perfectly within that model.
All in all, this verse has been a great blessing to me, and now that you’ve heard some of my thoughts, I hope it will bless you too.
