God Spoke Creation
[insert powerful words here]

For he spoke, and [all the earth] came into existence. He issued the decree, and it stood firm.
Psalm 33:9 (NET)

Sometimes I just need a reminder of the power of God.
Whenever I read and think about a passage like this, I think about the power of words.
God used words when he created the universe.
Okay, so that’s one layer. More than that, though, we have John 1 where we see him call Jesus the very Word of God.
I don’t understand all the nuance and poetry that’s going on there, but it is clear, again, that words are powerful. Not only did God use words to create all things, but He became a manifestation of The Word for us.
Yet the imagery doesn’t even stop there.
Because God created mankind by shaping us and breathing the breath of Life.
This imagery stands in such contrast to the rest of the creation story that we have to pay attention. For everything else, He speaks and it happens.
For humans, He shapes … molds … forms … and breathes Life.
It’s so obvious that from the very beginning God had bigger plans for us than anything else.
Yet it’s often too easy for me to gloss over the amazing relationship I get to have with the God of the universe and live my life in the mundane.
Or worse, neglect God.
Relationships grow with time & communication.
God gives us His Word (in this case, Scripture) to talk to us. We get to pray by talking to Him.
It’s all just communication, except from one man to the God of all.
Words are, indeed, powerful.
