God Gives the Kingdom
Good words from the Good Shepherd
===
Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom.
Luke 12:32 (NET)
===
How do you know when the kingdom is here?
When the King arrives.
For a brief moment in history, we had the physical King — Jesus — walking and talking on the earth with us. God in the flesh, Immanuel (God with us).
In some ways I envy the disciples who got to physically be with Jesus.
Yet Jesus told the disciples something radical:
Having the Holy Spirit would be better than having Jesus with them.
What?!
That seems crazy, except for a couple things: (1) Jesus is saying this so it must be true and (2) the nature of our relationship with God the Holy Spirit.
Instead of Jesus walking beside us, now God lives within us.
As believers, we have become ambassadors of the kingdom.
We’re a walking, talking representative of the Kingdom of Heaven here on the earth.
With the King of the universe living inside of us, giving legitimacy to our ambassadorship and guiding us on our mission.
Now we have a purpose, a job to do, a mission:
To rescue as many souls from the chains of hell as possible (by sharing the Truth).
You probably wouldn’t know it from first reading today’s verse, but the Father did, indeed, give us the kingdom … by giving us Himself.
The King has arrived.
