For the times when you’re struggling with the darkness of life
I Will Sing Praises
===
But I trust in your faithfulness. May I rejoice because of your deliverance.
I will sing praises to the Lord when he vindicates me.
Psalms 13:5-6 (NET)
===
What do you do when life is crumbling around you?
What did King David do?
This is part of a lament Psalm David penned likely when he was in exile from his son’s coup.
Realistically, David is running for his life, has lost his home and all the comforts he used to have, is being publicly humiliated by his son, and his family is split apart.
I’d say that counts as life crumbling around him.
It’s no surprise that he pens some laments during that time.
These two verses are a part of the resolution of the Psalmist to praise God despite all his troubles.
Most laments have some sort of resolution like this in them.
It’s the light of the Lord peaking through the dark chaos.
The writer decides that despite the hardships they’re going through, they will continue to trust the Lord and praise Him for who He is and His continuing goodness & grace.
We see Paul and Silas do something similar when imprisoned in Acts.
They are in chains and singing praises to the Lord.
They are resolved to trust God and praise Him, despite their circumstances.
I know this attitude alone does not fix the problems.
But there’s a good reason we see such powerful examples teaching us these things.
Take that to heart the next time you’re struggling with the darkness & chaos of life.
