For God So Loved the World
Over 6 months of doing this and I can’t believe I left this verse out
===
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (ESV)
===
Why do people love John 3:16 so much?
The answer is pretty simple:
It’s the entire Gospel in one little verse.
I have a mentor who teaches people how to get into the Word and improve their walk with Jesus. He’s been teaching this stuff for over 50 years.
He likes to use John 3:16 whenever talking about “How to Memorize Bible Verses,” because it’s a Goldilocks verse: not too long, not too short, just right.
To quote the whole verse ‘for & aft’ (that is, address before & after, in this case “John 3:16” is the address) he usually has someone volunteer to time him. They tell him to start, he quotes it all from memory at an average speed, and then tells them to stop.
Almost always takes about 11 seconds.
That’s it.
Spending 11 seconds a day can get God’s Word in your heart & mind.
I’m pretty sure we all have at least 11 seconds we can spare.
I can think of at least one place we visit daily where we have spare time to sit & think. Why not work on a Bible verse instead of checking your phone for the latest social media news. Obviously a better use of time.
Speaking of using my time well:
There’s some rich Gospel messaging inside this verse, but I’ll have to get to it tomorrow.
In the meantime, grab a verse card or Scripture memory app and start getting more of God’s Word locked away.
I guarantee it will bless your life.
