Everyone else worries about this, but you shouldn’t
Don’t Worry
===
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For there is more to life than food, and more to the body than clothing.”
Luke 12:22-23 (NET)
===
I know we could focus on the literal here of food & clothing.
But these are examples that represent the basics.
In today’s modern world, someone might focus on the “Four Walls,” as Dave Ramsey calls them:
Food, Utilities, Shelter, Transportation.
Now, whether we go with the list Jesus gives us or this other list, they all seem like pretty important stuff.
Why shouldn’t we worry about them?
Because when we get so focused on these things, we miss out on the rest of life.
Jesus even tells us that there’s more to life than these fundamental things.
Think about the greatest commandment: Love God, Love People (summary).
If you had to arrange the importance of these, now six, things, how would you rank them?
1. God 2. People. 3-6. Food, Utilities, Shelter, Transportation.
There’s two things, right off the bat, that are more important than the basics.
Just a few verses later — same paragraph — Jesus tells us that the Father knows we need them.
So here we have a chance to exercise our faith. Trusting God to provide the things He knows we need.
Which frees us up to focus on the more important things in life.
