Don’t believe everything you think
Hope in God
===
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
Psalm 43:5 (ESV)
===
I once saw a t-shirt telling me not to believe everything I think.
This verse is a prime example of why.
Sometimes we need to preach some sense into our souls.
One of my personal tricks for helping get my own mind out of a funk (which does happen from time to time) is by listening to the Psalms.
That’s right.
I pull up the ol’ Bible app, look up a Psalm, and press play.
The older I get, the more precious God’s Word becomes.
I’ll use it when I’m feeling down. I’ll listen to it when I’m struggling with sleep. And, of course, I read through it every day as I check-in with God in the mornings.
If you think reading God’s Word is powerful, but haven’t given it a long listen in a while, consider listening to some of it.
Psalms and Proverbs are particularly good.
Anything New Testament is pretty easy to enjoy.
I might stay away from Leviticus and the Chronicles for a bit.
Anyway, the point of all of this is to get the Truth into my ears and mind and heart. This makes it easier to preach God’s hope to myself when life gets me down.
I need these reminders of God’s goodness, faithfulness, salvation, and glory.
We all do.
I usually find my way out of the downcast days quickly. Suddenly I can praise Him again.
