Do Not Grow Weary
If your soul is tired, this should help
===
Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.
Hebrews 12:3 (NET)
===
Of course this is talking about Jesus.
The perfect & innocent one who endured the hostility of sinners, allowing himself to be executed in our place, and then overcame death.
If you remember back those final moments before the cross, Jesus endured all kinds of humiliation, public scorn & shame, physical beatings, mockery, slander, theft of personal property (they divided up his clothes), false accusations, and more.
Yet, through all of that, Jesus never gave up on His mission.
Namely, to be the living sacrifice in our place so that we would have access to the Eternal Father and live life with Him forever.
Now, putting all of that together, the instructions from the author of Hebrews here makes sense.
We have this great example set before us of a savior who endured so, so, SO much pain & heartache. Surely this can be an encouragement for us today, helping endure whatever struggles we’re facing in life.
I think it’s the eternal perspective that works best at fighting the weariness of the soul.
Knowing that someday the struggles of life will fall away and, for the believer in Christ, a glorious eternal future awaits.
It’s that faith, that hope, which helps us endure.
Do not grow weary.
