Do Good to Everyone (Part 1)
The carrot-on-a-stick method for living the Christian life
===
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:9-10 (ESV)
===
Thankfully, God has given order to His universe.
Even though it can feel chaotic at times, just a little observation shows us that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Of course, that deals mainly with physics. But what about the things beyond mere physics?
For instance, good deeds and bad deeds?
Clearly Paul, the writer of the letter to the Galatians, wanted to encourage them to continue the hard work of doing good. And he hints at a promise of reward for them if they do.
The rewards seldom come in life here on earth.
No, we must be patient and faithful to trust that God is making an account of the deeds we do in order to reward us in heaven.
(Note: this is an after salvation thing, not a “good works can get you to heaven” thing … because only faith in Christ gets you access to the eternal Father.)
This first verse is good news, because, frankly, I’m a pretty shallow person. I need positive reinforcement to continue doing good.
I’d like to say that I would always continually do good just because it’s the right thing to do … but … I can’t.
I’m still a work in progress.
So then, I’ll have to remember this and keep hanging the carrot on the stick in front of me, so to speak.
All right, I’ve got some more thoughts to share tomorrow.
