Courage in God
To boldly go where God has called before
===
But although we suffered earlier and were mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the courage in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in spite of much opposition.
1 Thessalonians 2:2 (NET)
===
I often wonder how well I would do compared to Paul.
He’s such a great example of a life changed for Jesus, working hard to fulfill the mission God gave him.
I don’t have the confidence that I would do as well.
Then again, Paul relied on the Holy Spirit to help, just as I do … just as all of us believers do.
Clearly, God has called me to a different time, a different mission.
One also important for the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
There is plenty of opposition to my own mission today. It takes courage to overcome the opposition and do my part.
I’m ashamed that I have often failed to do the right things.
God’s grace is still good though.
Christ’s sacrifice still covers my sin.
And so I can take courage from a verse like this. And use it as an example of a life lived on mission for God.
Paul didn’t fear the opposition, he boldly spoke the Gospel in spite of it.
If he can do that, then I can boldly charge into any other opposition and do the work God has for me.
I believe you can too.
I pray that today you are encouraged to follow the example of Paul and be bold for Christ.
