Commit Your Future
Have you got a better plan?
===
Commit your future to the Lord. Trust in him, and he will act on your behalf. He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause.
Psalms 37:5-6 (NET)
===
On first glance, committing my future to God seems hard.
It means giving up control of my life, handing God the wheel and letting Him drive.
Except, if you think about it, what am I really giving up?
I don’t have much control over my life anyway. Certainly not my future.
It’s just an illusion that I can control my future.
Sure, I can make my own decisions. I can take action and choose to react to life in one way or another.
But that’s about it.
Most other things are reliant on other people’s decisions, the randomness of the universe, or the consequences of my own actions.
All in all, it seems like God has a better plan.
I know, quite the understatement.
Of course God has a better plan, it’s just hard for me to realize that at times. You know, because of my selfish, sinful nature.
Anyway, we see these verses as part of some more general wisdom from God.
If I trust God with my future, He will act on my behalf.
Not a 100% mathematical formula — and God is not a genie — but it’s a usual promise He makes.
Certainly more reliable than anything I could do.
So, again, it’s the better plan.
