Christ’s Strength
There’s much more to this coffee cup verse than meets the eye
===
I can do all things through [Christ] who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13 (ESV)
===
This is one of those “coffee cup” verses.
You know, the ones that people print out on their morning mugs so they can have a little boost of encouragement with their cup o’ joe.
Nothing wrong with that, per se, but there’s so much more here.
In context of the passage, Paul is talking about how he’s lived in good times and bad. Sickness and health. For better or wors— wait … that’s a wedding.
Well, I guess it’s not that different.
We are the Bride of Christ. And our journey with Jesus is comparable to the marriage dance of life.
Anyway, what I see Paul doing here is saying, “no matter what happens to me in this life, I can handle it because Christ is with me and He strengthens me.”
Can you handle anything life throws at you?
I know there have been times when I’ve been completely overwhelmed by life. I didn’t feel like I could handle it. In desperation, I cried out to God.
You know what?
God has always answered me.
I often find myself crying out for help like I read a lot in the Psalms.
That’s okay. Because I have a good, good heavenly Father. Who loves me and cares for me and strengthens me.
With Him on my side … I, too, can do all things.
