Christ in Me (Part 2)
The trust exercise that never fails
===
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 (ESV)

Already, but not yet.
That’s a term that theologians use to describe the reality of the world we are living in. Between the ascension of Christ to heaven — the kingdom of God is already here — and the return of Christ to restore all things — the kingdom of God is not yet here.
It occurs to me that this metaphor could also apply to our daily walk as believers.
We are already cleansed by the blood of Christ. We are new creatures.
But, not yet.
We still walk around in our fleshy selves, still feeling temptation and — often — falling to temptation.
I need a savior every day because, left to my own devices, I would utterly fail God.
I remember back to a sermon I heard about Abraham. How his faith in God was demonstrated in how he leaned into God so much that if God did not take care of him, he would utterly crash.
It’s a trust exercise.
You know the ones they do at work retreats, where a person has to fall backwards and trust that the person behind them is going to catch them.
Most of the time they are caught … but sometimes … CRASH!
The person doing the catching proves to be unreliable and they fall.
Except, in this case, I’m placing my trust in God. Who won’t fail me, won’t let me crash. He even sends His Spirit to live inside of me, helping me live my life today.
God’s already saved me … but not yet perfected me.
Already, but not yet.
