Christ in Me (Part 1)
Progress, and then perfection
===
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 (ESV)
===
Quite the word-picture.
Here, Paul is talking about executing his old, fleshy self. Destroying its desires and allowing Christ to have total control over his life. So much so that Paul puts Christ as the one living in the shell of his body.
This is the gift of the Holy Spirit.
That having God live inside us is so much better than having Jesus physically walk beside us.
For one thing, when Jesus was on the earth He had physically limited himself to only being in one place at a time. Just like any other human.
But now, God’s Spirit can roam the whole earth, filling each believer at the same time.
He never tires.
He never wanders.
He’s always there, ready to help us when we need Him.
And He’s faithful to us even when we aren’t faithful to Him. What good God we serve!
The hard part of this verse? Actually putting my old self to death. I don’t always want to execute the desires of my flesh, I oftentimes fall to temptation, allowing the old me to take over in the place where Christ should be.
What can I say? I’m a work in progress.
And you are too.
And, again, God is good and He forgives us and loves us and guides us.
So, how do we walk around in this new reality of Christ living inside us?
I’ll share on that tomorrow.
