Christ Completes
Sit quietly and listen to the Savior speak
===
For I am sure of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:6 (NET)
===
This is one of those verses I like whenever I’m feeling “down in the dumps.”
Especially if I’m struggling with some sin that got me that day and I need a little encouragement.
It’s so easy to get stuck in all the negativity of what I’ve done wrong… or how far I have to go… or how imperfect I am.
Yet God is always working on me.
Who began this good work?
I mean, I know the Sunday School answer is Jesus, but more than Him, the Holy Spirit is the one doing the regenerating work on my spirit. He’s also the one living inside me.
Jesus called Him the Comforter.
An apt description (obviously) because He’s so good about finding ways to comfort me in my distress. If I’m willing to slow down and listen to Him.
So often I fill my life with noise: social media, podcasts, TV, movies, friends, family, …
noise, noise, noise.
What about taking time to sit quietly and absorb the Word?
Some years ago I was on a long road trip with a spiritual mentor. About halfway into the trip he pulled out his phone, bluetoothed it to the speakers, and said, “let’s just listen to the Word for a while.”
Friend, it was such a sweet time.
We listened to Psalms and I found myself comforted as I sat in His Word.
That day was a turning point for me. Now I often just sit and listen to the Word for a while.
Resting at the feet of my Savior.
