Call to God
Better than a phone call

‘Call on me in prayer and I will answer you. I will show you great and mysterious things that you still do not know about.’
Jeremiah 33:3 (NET)

One of the Bible stories that stands out to me is Elijah’s victory at Mt. Carmel.
During the challenge between Elijah and the prophets of Baal, the prophets spent hours doing all they could to call out to their god. They screamed, they prayed, they put on a show. Elijah even began to mock them, asking one time if Baal couldn’t hear them because he was busy in the bathroom. 🤣
Eventually it’s Elijah’s turn to call out to God and when he does, God immediately — and quite visually — answers.
I’m glad we serve a God who answers.
More than that, I’m glad we serve a powerful God who answers our prayers and can do something about them.
I’d hate to waste my life crying out to a not-god hoping for any little sign to point me in the right direction.
What’s even more amazing than that is how much God wants to have a relationship with each of us. He doesn’t just want our worship — though He does want that — He wants our hearts; to walk in love with Him.
Christ came to restore relationship with each of us.
Now we have this confidence that our prayers are not falling on mute, dumb, blind, or deaf ears. Our prayers go to the God of the universe, the very one who spoke it into existence.
He is good and He is powerful.
But, am I willing to ask for big things? Joshua asked for the sun to stand still — God said yes.
How big an ask can I make today?
