Build the Body of Christ
Sometimes you just need to show up
===
From him the whole body grows, fitted and held together through every supporting ligament. As each one does its part, the body builds itself up in love.
Ephesians 4:16 (NET)
===
There’s so much more happening in this passage than just this one verse.
But it’s a fitting one for focusing on the job we have as participating in the building work of the Body of Christ.
Every believer has a job to do.
God has designed us for specific & special work.
Work that will help to build the Kingdom and bless others and lead people to a restored relationship with God.
How cool is it that God lets us be a part of this?!
The work we are called to do is rooted in love.
That’s significant.
It helps to eliminate the grudging effort of doing things just because we’re “supposed to.” And it takes away the legalism “checklist” approach to Christianity, because neither of those are rooted in love.
It also gives us grace for stumbling through our work.
I don’t know about you, but I make all kinds of mistakes whenever I’m trying to accomplish things for Christ. I depend on the grace of God and the working of the Holy Spirit to fill the gaps in my efforts.
Participating is most of the battle.
Simply starting, moving things forward, activating that momentum is often enough to make significant progress.
I know that “just showing up” seems like such a small thing … but whenever I show up as a volunteer and let the Holy Spirit take control, great work happens.
Not just great work around me, but great work through me.
God is good, and I’m blessed to be a part of His Kingdom work.
