Being Renewed
The best at what they do
===
Therefore we do not despair, but even if our physical body is wearing away, our inner person is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16 (NET)

As I write this, football season is underway.
One reason my dad says he likes about professional sports is the chance to see the peak athletes in the world put on an incredible show. More than cheering on his team, he wants to see phenomenal athletes do phenomenal things.
Peak physical performance.
But, eventually, they all must retire.
Time catches us all.
No matter how incredible a player is, eventually they wear away and they can no longer keep up with the younger athletes.
Now, they might despair, but as believers we don’t have to.
We can rejoice that our inner self is being renewed into maturity.
In this case, maturity is becoming more and more like Christ.
This is the transformational work that the Holy Spirit does in us. I’m glad it’s not all about me improving my own life, that would be its own despair. Instead, I get to work with the Holy Spirit to bring God’s Kingdom here and, in the process, be transformed.
And someday our physical bodies will be made brand new, perfect in eternal life.
What will that be like?
I don’t know exactly. But I trust that it will be better than I could ever hope or imagine.
God is good like that.
