Be Strengthened in the Lord
A good reminder for me & you

Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power.
Ephesians 6:10 (NET)
===
Ephesus was a major city in the ancient Greek world.
It had one of the major temples of the Greek so-called gods in it and a ton of education and commerce happened there.
The message of Christianity was not exactly welcome to many Ephesians.
They were a local church who needed God’s strength to help them in the midst of social pressure & persecution.
Right after this verse Paul is going to tell them to put on the armor of God.
Here we have a great reminder of encouragement from Paul to people he loved and where they should put their confidence.
Remember, Timothy, Paul’s protégé, was the pastor in Ephesus.
So Paul may have been encouraging him just as much — if not more — than he was encouraging that particular church.
Regardless, these are great words for us to remember today.
We all have our own set of pressures to deal with.
Whether it’s temptation from people around us or temptation from spiritual forces or temptation from our own corrupted and broken flesh.
I need a reminder like this to rely on God’s strength and not my own. To trust him and not try to force myself to walk in righteousness (as if I could do that anyway).
A good reminder for me, and maybe for you too.
